Our Story

Aspen trees

For the last 35 years, Aspen’s parent company Gibson Design Group, has completed large projects across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East.  As a member of the Gibson group of companies, Aspen capitalizes on the group’s extensive cross-industry experience, while focusing its growth on the excellence of its clients’ projects in the hospitality world.

By recognizing the need for transparency in accounting and senior-level attention in the purchasing process, Alexandra Gibson and Christina West, Senior Directors with Aspen, saw a need to be filled by a boutique procurement firm with very well-educated and holistically experienced team to work on complex projects.

Both with roots in the West–Christina started her career in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Alexandra was raised in the ski resort of Sun Valley, Idaho–the pair selected the name Aspen Associates.  Aspen trees symbolize fast growth and adaptation to changing environments, as well as a strongly rooted system.  While other plant life experience devastation, even aspens can thrive after fire.

Aspen believes in a process of mutual selection and is selective in the owners and projects it works with, resulting in 100% of Aspen’s clients working with the company on repeat projects.

To date, Aspen has worked with brands like Marriott, Hyatt, and Starwood through its client-owners.

Headquartered in the beautiful town of Charlottesville, Virginia, Aspen’s offices are located in a downtown warehouse, fondly named The Pink Warehouse, where Dave Matthews played his first concert; it is rumored that the subject of DMB’s hit song, Warehouse, is The Pink Warehouse where he got his start.  To best serve its clients and to attract the best talent to its team regardless of geography, Aspen has additional offices in DCLos Angeles and London.

Aspen Associates recognizes the many layers involved in high-profile projects, and understands how to effectively plan, organize and communicate in order to meet the distinct needs of our clients.
